Kansas City Royals fans want Eric Hosmer back in Royal blue next season. According to Royals rumors, it appears that the organization could be looking to do just about whatever it takes to retain the first baseman.

We’re all going through the nostalgia this weekend of this being the final weekend with this group of guys that we’ve all come to know and love over the last few years. All good things come to an end though, and when the final out is recorded on Sunday, that’ll be it for the 2017 Kansas City Royals.

The good news is that no one is officially gone yet. It’s a pretty well-known fact that the Royals aren’t going to keep everyone, nor should they keep everyone.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports has the earliest scoop on the Royals rumors, and believes that the boys in blue will be in big on trying to keep Eric Hosmer in a Royals uniform beyond 2017. Heyman writes,

"Word is, they are willing to make a serious offer (presumably $100 million plus) to Hosmer, though they expect some big-market competition, perhaps from the Boston Red Sox, possibly the New York Yankees, or others.  The Royals can’t be sure they can outbid interested big-market teams, but they put a high value on Hosmer."

This was some pretty shocking news for Royals fans. Of course everyone would love to see Hosmer in Kansas City for the duration of his career, but $100 million? Can the Royals even afford that?

Well, on Friday morning, general manager Dayton Moore appeared on 610 Sports Radio for his weekly appearance. He was asked about this particular rumor and said he hadn’t discussed anything like that at this point in time.

It’s going to be a murky offseason for the Kansas City Royals, there’s no debating that. Hosmer won’t be the only player hitting free agency this season, as Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain are the other two big ones joining him on the market.

The Royals won’t be able to keep all three of those guys, so it becomes a game of who can they keep and how much will it take to do it? Hosmer is the youngest of the bunch, but he won’t come cheap. Will the Royals go all in on a deal for Hosmer, knowing that their giant contract offered to Alex Gordon blew up in their faces?

I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Dayton Moore’s shoes this offseason. If the Royals rumors do come to fruition and the team does extend a $100 million contract to Hosmer, would he take it? It’s tough to imagine another team not offering him more money and more years than whatever the Royals put on the table.

If Hosmer signs with the highest bidder, then it likely won’t be Kansas City. The truth hurts, but Major League Baseball is a business, and Hosmer has one of the most intense agents when it comes to free agency.

What do you think, Royals fans? Would you be okay with the organization giving Eric Hosmer $100 million?
