These next few games, these players are going to be soaking everything in. If you have a chance to get out to the stadium and experience it, I highly recommend it. Let’s send them out in the same way we welcomed a winner: Together.

More from KC Kingdom

These players have become a part of this city and it’s fans. In time, as all things do, that will surely fade in some respects. We’ve watched them grow up and in that we’ve seen them and supported them in both their failures and their successes. We’ve mourned with them as they’ve lost family members and one little brother in particular.

No matter what comes for these players, whether some stay or none stay, I can’t do anything but look at each of them with as much humility as I can muster and say from the bottom of my heart “Thank you”.

Thank you for being a source of light in both sports and in life. Everyone experiences down times and you have all been an uplifting force. Thank you for being a source of unity in a time when it’s become so easy to divide. Thank you for being so much more than just a game to so many people. It is a true inspiration that something so simple can mean so much to so many people. Thank you for sharing so much of your lives with all of us in Kansas City.

As I say goodbye on Sunday to the team that was and will never be again, I’ll be thankful for the memories, optimistic that fall will always carry a significant feeling of joy as I remember this incredible run, hopeful that the departing players get everything they can possible hope for (while still remembering KC was best), and again, I’m sure, I’ll cry.
