Kansas City Royals: Eric Hosmer Market Value
By Joel Wagler
What is Eric Hosmer’s Market Value?
It will be interesting to see if the league general managers will be fooled by Hosmer’s nice, above average, but ultimately unspectacular numbers. Hosmer is outgoing and could be the face of many organizations. He seems to be a great guy to have in the clubhouse. Still, he does not have super star numbers.

Will the Royals have to over pay to keep Eric Hosmer? Will they be bidding against multiple teams for his services? He is certainly talented enough to garner plenty of interest in the offseason.
Ultimately, it might come down to how much the Royals will be willing to spend on a player who is still young and has been a key component to their recent successes.
Davis’ deal might be the baseline. If an established crusher like Davis was worth $23 million two years ago, surely Hosmer, though a couple of years younger, wouldn’t be worth more now. Even Davis’ defensive metrics are better (Davis has a UZR of 7 as a first baseman, and his DFS is 15).
Considering everything, a fair contract for Eric Hosmer should fall in the range of six to eight years for $19 to $21 million per season. Anything more than that would be a severe overpay when you consider what other first basemen are making. He probably is worth less but won’t make less anywhere.
