While running back and wide receiver tend to be what most people target in the first round, quarterbacks sometimes get taken that early, especially in two starting quarterback leagues.

Drafting quarterbacks can be tricky. While everyone would love to land Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, sometimes it’s better to load up on wide receiver first and then go after the gun slingers.

By that point, Rodgers and Brady will be long gone, but there are still going to be several options available for your team. For instance, guys like Marcus Mariota and Philip Rivers should still be sitting there in the middle rounds and you might even “luck” into drafting Andrew Luck if his injury news isn’t positive in the coming weeks.

More from KC Kingdom

Last year, in my two starting quarterback league, I had Drew Brees and Jameis Winston as my main two QBs. In my other league, which is a traditional league of just one starting quarterback, I drafted Carson Palmer and had Alex Smith as my bench guy.

Since this is a Kansas City site, I’ll go ahead and gush over the Chiefs quarterback. I know that Alex Smith isn’t going to be anyone’s number one choice to have on their fantasy team. In fact, he probably won’t be a top 15 quarterback taken in most leagues due to him not throwing down field all that often.

Smith will help your team with his legs and with his reputation of not turning the ball over. Sometimes it’s nice to have a consistent player on your team as opposed to someone who will put up outrageous numbers one week and then tank the next week.

So, what’s your strategy when it comes to the quarterback position this year? Are you going to land the best guy available in Aaron Rodgers or are you going to wait around for a few rounds and target someone like Jameis Winston?

Happy drafting!
