Kansas City Chiefs: Preseason game 1 open thread
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs are kicking off preseason action tonight against the San Francisco 49ers. Keep up with the action and share your thoughts in our live open thread.
It’s finally back Chiefs Kingdom! Football is here at long last as the Kansas City Chiefs take to the field tonight to kick off their preseason schedule. The first opponent on their plate is the San Francisco 49ers. These games may not mean anything in the standings, but there is still a lot to learn from what we see tonight.
Of course, the big topic on everyone’s mind is what will we see from Patrick Mahomes in his first NFL action. The rookie quarterback has gotten a mixture of hype train and brake signs from the media and coaching staff. So tonight will be our first opportunity to see what is what.

I talked about the ten things we should be watching for yesterday. Of course, it gets tough to do that when the game is going. Besides, this is the first preseason game, so what we are really watching for is whether or not the first team can come off the field with a lead. Everything after that is pretty much subjective.
Also, the only thing anyone will really be talking about until the next game is Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith. That’s especially true after Deshaun Watson ended up having a decent debut for the Houston Texans in his game. I said earlier this offseason that Mahomes and Watson will always be compared to one another.
