The following season, the Royals won the World Series and it was a magical time. Long before that happened, the Cardinals had been eliminated in the NLDS by the Chicago Cubs, their biggest rival.

Knowing that St. Louis had to sit through the rest of that 2015 postseason and watch the Royals win the World Series made me beam with pride. I couldn’t help but think back to all of those rude Cardinals fans I went to school with and laugh at their pain.

More from Kansas City Royals

Of course, most of those fans probably just hopped on the Royals bandwagon at that time since they weren’t really Cardinals fans anyway. They just picked the baseball team that happened to be winning titles, and the Cardinals haven’t done that in five years.

I’m bummed that the I-70 Series isn’t as big of a deal now. Last year, however, it was amazing to see Royals fans pack Busch Stadium in St. Louis during the series and to hear them do a loud “LET’S GO ROYALS” chant. The boys in blue would go on to take three out of four from the Cardinals a year ago.

It was just nice to see Cardinals fans get a taste of their own medicine after they filled my team’s stadium for so long. I hope Royals fans turn Busch Stadium blue again this year and I hope another “LET’S GO ROYALS” chant is in the works. PLEASE LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN.

St. Louis has looked better in this year’s series and that really sucks, but when it comes down to it, the Kansas City Royals have the more recent World Series championship and that makes me smile. College Leigh would be so happy.

Royals fans, do you care about the Cardinals at all or are they irrelevant to you now?
