While the Cardinals were the better team in 2013, the Royals saw their turnaround happen that season.

Yes, the Cardinals won the I-70 Series that year, but the tides were slowly turning for both organizations. Even though the Royals would not make the postseason in 2013, they were in the running until the bitter end and had their first winning season in a decade.

The Cardinals would go on to make the World Series in 2013, their second appearance in the Fall Classic in just two years, but they fell to the Boston Red Sox in six games. Cardinals fans would never have thought at that moment that the Royals would soon become the more successful franchise, but that very thing happened, and oh man… It was glorious.

We actually had a chance to see the I-70 Series played out in the 2014 World Series, but it was St. Louis who messed that up.

In 2014, the Kansas City Royals did the unthinkable and made the playoffs! It was their first appearance in the MLB postseason in 29 years.

The Cardinals also made it, only it was their fourth straight year in the playoffs. They made sure to remind everyone of that too, as they always do.

We actually had a chance to see the I-70 Series played out in the 2014 World Series, but it was St. Louis who messed that up. The Cardinals lost in the NLCS to the San Francisco Giants and their fans were likely very angry about the World Series match-up they had to watch that fall. A lot of them probably weren’t even aware that Missouri had another baseball team.
