If someone said that KU Football will win six games next season and make one of the biggest turnarounds in college football, people would probably laugh at that statement. What if the head coach said the same thing?

Yes, David Beaty believes the Kansas Jayhawks will win six games next season. That comes after a season where the Jayhawks only earned two wins and have not made the postseason since 2008. For starters, this statement is obviously beyond optimistic. Heck, I thought I was the most optimistic person about KU Football next season.

First reported by the Lawrence World Journal, David Beaty states at the end of the article: “We expect to go to a bowl game”. That is a huge statement coming from a head coach. Maybe it is just a ploy to get confidence rallied up for next season? Or maybe it is not. Now, Beaty could be completely wrong in saying KU will go to a bowl game next season, but stop and think about it for a minute.

KU Football has been in the headlines A LOT over this last offseason. They have crushed it on the recruiting trail, picked up a head turning five star recruit, earned an unorthodox add at the offensive coordinator positon, and solved their inconsistent quarterback play in Peyton Bender. So, where does all this lead?

Offseason improvements, new administration pickups, recruiting that defies expectations, and a stable football team that no one saw coming?  Hold up, this may sound like a bowl game team to me. You may balk at what I just said, you may have stop reading this article at this point, but if you have not, listen to what I am saying.

All this good news leads somewhere. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Where there is potential, there is promise. As of now, what KU Football lacks in proof and evidence they have in potential. That is the one thing they have a lot of. Beaty has brought that one defying characteristic to this team.

Sports are a mental game. If you think you can’t, you won’t. If you think you can, you just might. Right now, Beaty has got his kids thinking bowl game. After beating the Texas Longhorns last season in overtime and decisively firing Charlie Strong, all bets are off on optimism. It all just takes key players and a sound foundation to get a football program back on its feet.

Again, you may never believe me, and you may never believe David Beaty. You might just have to wait till next season to have his statement proven or disproven.

If you think about what I have said, however, you may start leaning towards a more optimistic view. David Beaty has made major improvements with KU Football, and fans should be hopeful for what the 2017 season brings.

Rock Chalk!
