The Kansas City Royals had a miserable start to the 2017 season, but had a nice road trip to California last week. They’re now only two games out of the second Wild Card spot, meaning it’s time to cool off with the trade talks.

After a 7-2 road trip against the Padres, Giants, and Angels, the Kansas City Royals find themselves right back in the thick of things in the MLB standings. As mentioned above, they’re two games out of the second Wild Card spot and are three and a half games behind the Cleveland Indians, who are leading the division.

The Royals are one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball right now and that’s why it’s officially time to table any trade discussions. Kansas City is only two games under .500 now, after sitting as many as ten games under a little over a month ago.

Kansas City’s offense has picked things up considerably and a lot of that has to do with Alex Gordon finally producing at the plate. Gordon is still hitting below .200, but batted .304 over the past week with seven hits, six runs, two doubles, a home run, and an RBI in 23 at bats.

If the next few weeks pass by and the KC Royals are still hanging around, don’t expect Dayton Moore to trade anyone. If anything, the Royals could become buyers, which is an interesting thing to think about.

More from Kansas City Royals

Where are the weaknesses on this Royals team? They could certainly stand to add some bullpen help and potentially upgrade at the designated hitter spot (though they have Brandon Moss signed for next year as well, so that’d be money down the drain). Starting pitching will be fine once Danny Duffy and Nate Karns get healthy and return to the rotation, so that’s not worth addressing.

The bottom line is that if the Kansas City Royals keep playing this well, then we won’t be discussing trading anyone. We’ll be discussing who the Royals should potentially add.

That’s another interesting thought though… The Royals’ farm system is weak, so will they splurge what little talent they have left for a rental? Perhaps they will if it could mean another World Series championship is on the table.

The Royals have a huge home stand over the next week and it’ll start against the Boston Red Sox on Monday. The Red Sox are one of the best teams in the American League, so if the Royals can win this series, then this season will have just gotten more interesting for sure.

Watch out everyone! The Royals are finally hot!
