All season long, Kansas City Royals fans have been groaning loudly every time Alex Gordon grounded into a double play or struck out. Gordon has finally started to make progress at the plate, and the Royals are benefiting as a result.

It has been a rough year and a half for Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals. Gordon inked a mega deal after he helped his team win the World Series in 2015 and hadn’t contributed much to the team since signing that big contract.

In the past week, however, Gordon has finally started to look like his former self at the plate. In the last week, Gordon has recorded nine hits in 24 at bats. He’s scored eight runs, walked three times, hit three doubles, smashed two home runs, and plated two RBI for a weekly batting average of .375. He’s gotten his overall average to just barely below the Mendoza line at .196.

Yes, the obvious argument is that Gordon was facing pitchers who likely have no business being in the major leagues (with the exception of Johnny Cueto, obviously), but to see the hometown hero finally figuring it out again is a wonderful sight!

More from Kansas City Royals

Since signing his big contract before the 2016 season began, Alex Gordon hasn’t provided the team much. He’s had some good defensive plays in the outfield, but overall… Gordon hasn’t been what the Royals paid for.

Recently, however, his hot hitting has helped the Royals win six games in a row. This is exactly what the KC Royals need from Alex Gordon if they want to contend for another World Series. If Gordon can keep hitting, then good things will probably occur for this Royals ball club.

If, however, Gordon starts to slump heavily again like he did for most of last year and the early part of this season, then the Royals can kiss their playoff chances good-bye. The good news is that we’re seeing Alex Gordon actually make an impact with his bat now and that could not have been said last week.

When the guy making the most money on the team is batting below the Mendoza line two months into the season, good things aren’t expected to happen. Fortunately, Gordon is slowly looking like his former self, and that’s fabulous news for fans of the Kansas City Royals.

Gordon is finally on the board when it comes to home runs, belting all three of them in the past week and a half. That was likely a huge weight lifted off of Gordon’s shoulders after he hit his first home run of the 2017 season.

Good things have happened since Gordon hit that dinger and here’s to hoping that the Royals’ winning ways continue now that Gordon is regaining his composure at the plate.
