Kansas City Chiefs Minicamp

Does Everyone Show Up?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

After getting snapped at by Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, most of the KC media backed off the question of player attendance at OTAs. However, just because they stopped asking doesn’t mean it isn’t still a question. Will everyone show up at mandatory minicamp?

Eric Berry, Justin Houston, Marcus Peters, Dee Ford, and CJ Spiller are the most notable names of players who missed OTA time. For Berry and Houston, there isn’t a whole lot of concern. Both players have been working out on their own and conducting camps. However, for the other three, there is plenty of reason for concern.

With Marcus Peters and Dee Ford, there is the most to be worried about. There has been no explanation given by any parties regarding their missing practices. For Ford, he actually showed up at first and then stopped attending. Neither player is veteran enough that they should be missing practices just because. Having questions about this should be expected.

CJ Spiller’s absence is also disconcerting, but for a different reason. With his injury history, you can never be too sure of where he’s at. The running back skipped some OTA sessions, which is kind of odd for a new addition. The Chiefs said it was for “a personal matter”. That doesn’t ease my mind very much. However, it does appear he’s having a house built, so maybe that was it.

Hopefully this is just me being worried about nothing. However, that is rarely the case in the NFL. With five players skipping workouts so far, the odds are not good that they are all innocent situations.
