Kansas City Chiefs: Jeremy Maclin inks deal with Baltimore Ravens
By trevb
Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has been signed to a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Maclin announced his decision on Monday afternoon after being released by the Chiefs a week and a half ago.
After the Kansas City Chiefs released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, a mix of emotions swelled around Chiefs Kingdom. Some Chiefs fans did not understand why Maclin was released from the Chiefs. Others applauded the move as a step in a new direction toward improving the receiving core at Kansas City.
Either way Maclin is gone from KC and is now headed to Baltimore. In his final season with the Chiefs, Maclin recorded 44 receptions, 536 yards, and two touchdowns. As of this afternoon, however, Maclin is now a Baltimore Raven.
With the free agent signing of Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs should now move on to other options at the receiver position. Our own Ben Almquist has evaluated the current options following Jeremy Maclin’s release. One of the options that Andy Reid has even mentioned is increasing Tyreek Hill’s reps as a receiver.
Tyreek Hill is a complete beast of a player and could be uncatchable at the receiver slot. As one of the fastest players in the NFL, Hill is definitely a top contender for this spot. Hill has similar accolades to Maclin as well. As a rookie, Hill has already been inducted into the Pro Bowl and been named as an All-Pro player.

Maclin had similar achievements. Maclin received a Pro Bowl selection in 2014 with the Eagles and was a strong candidate for number one receiver on the Chiefs depth chart when he arrived to Kansas City in 2015. Many fans were shocked with his release considering that the Chiefs are shooting to contend in the division and for a Super Bowl.
It just goes to show what John Dorsey is now looking for in the future of this organization. While Andy Reid seemed sad to see Maclin go, it was a necessary release for the betterment of the Chiefs future. With the release of Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs are expecting the younger wide receivers to step up in his absence.
Most likely this caused the main reason for the release of Jeremy Maclin. With his release, the other receivers should have more incentive to compete against each other for the top spot. Along with Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley, Albert Wilson, and Jehu Chesson should all be in consideration for the number one receiver spot.
It is a new day and age for the Kansas City Chiefs. As Maclin inks his deal with the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs embark on a new future ahead of them.
The release of Jeremy Maclin may be a landmark decision for the Chiefs eventual end goal of a Super Bowl. Whether that decision turns out to be good or bad will be seen next season at Arrowhead Stadium.
