Once a sparkling example of what a player is like for the Kansas City Royals, Alex Gordon is now a worn out big money contract player. If you were to ask any Royals fan today, they might have a mix of sorrow and disgust against Gordon.

Like a Hollywood film that never needed a sequel, Alex Gordon continues to play out his million dollar contract with the Kansas City Royals with mediocre ball play. Gordon definitely does not deserve the contract he currently holds, as our own Leigh Oleszczak has said multiple times, Alex Gordon is now a detriment to the Royals.

I totally agree with that statement. Not only is Alex Gordon a washed up player and no longer holds any value to the team, but he is a ball and chain on the ankles of the whole organization. His million dollar lengthy contract will set budget restrictions on the Royals for years to come. The sticker price of the current Alex Gordon is nowhere near what the Royals are paying him.

It really hurts too. As a simple interpretation, the contract offered to Gordon seemed like a good idea at the time. Heck, even I believed that Gordon would never get old and tired. Yet, here we are discussing the newfound disgust fans have with him. Along with his big money haul and his weight on the Royals, Gordon may becoming less and less desirable on the trade market.

Currently, Alex Gordon is having the worst season he has ever had to the surprise of no one. Gordon is batting an average of .177, with 31 hits, one home run (which he JUST hit on Tuesday night), and 11 runs batted in. He is absolutely frozen on the offense front and strikes out about 20 percent of the time. To make matters worse, Gordon’s feelings toward his bad play are unreadable.

As a fan, you would think a player like Gordon would be unsatisfied with his play. Normal desirable players have an insatiable appetite for improvement and a great work ethic. Gordon seems to have none of these feelings. When he strikes out, he walks back to the dugout and looks like he just shrugs it off. Then again… We’re not positive what he’s thinking, but still. I’d be chucking my bat in anger.

Born in a family filled with Royals fans I have experienced many different levels of fan angst, but none is as bad as my grandmother’s hate for Alex Gordon. As a lifelong Royals fan she has experienced numerous players come through the organization, but none compare to the malevolent Alex Gordon in her book.

Right now, I may be about to jump on that kind of train. The options the Kansas City Royals have to get rid of Alex Gordon will cost them no matter what. That may be the main reason why the downfall of the costly Gordon has got most fans expressing anger towards him. With the way this season has gone so far most Royals fans hate to see even more pitfalls.

One thing is for sure, the Royals have some crucial decisions to make about their future and one of those decisions is regarding Alex Gordon. With the trade market heating up, the Royals should look to drop some players off and gain some new weapons for the team. Unfortunately, Gordon isn’t batting well enough to be in consideration for that option.

Let’s face it. The Kansas City Royals might just be stuck with Alex Gordon… unless he opts to retire, which is doubtful. Would you pass up on making $20 million in a year? Exactly.
