After declining the option on resigning Edinson Volquez the Kansas City Royals lost their World Series pitcher to the Miami Marlins. While Volquez was left to the Marlins he still remembers his fellow pitching ace Yordano Ventura.

As of today the Kansas City Royals have seen major improvements in starting pitching. Jason Vargas has been a pitching superstar and pitched a shutout game against the Cleveland Indians on Friday. Unfortunately, Edinson Volquez was left behind after the new crew of starting pitching moved in.

He eventually found a new home on the Miami Marlins after the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. As a Royal, Volquez helped Kansas City win the 2015 World Series. He became one of the aces of the 2015 team with a 13-9 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 155 strikeouts per SportsReference. To this date it is one of the best seasons of his career.

Right now for the Marlins, Volquez holds a 1-7 record, a 4.44 ERA, and 47 strikeouts. While those stats are far from impressive he has pitched the first no-hitter of his career. Against the Arizona Diamondback Volquez pitched ten strikeouts. He pitched the sixth no-hitter of the entire Marlins franchise.

It could not more appropriate that this happened on the birthday of former Royals pitching ace Yordano Ventura. The only true reaction to Volquez’s no-hitter as a Royals fan is to appreciate his success. He definitely appreciates his time in KC, in no small part because of the friendship between he and Ventura.

Edinson Volquez dedicated his sole no-hitter to his best friend, Ventura, as well as recently deceased Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. While it was hard to see Volquez leave the Royals it seems he continues his impressive spirit and character in Miami. Volquez’s postgame comments were nothing short of honorable and emotional as well.

It is great to see Eddy have a the first no-hitter of his career. Along with the first no-hitter of his career Volquez has a World Series ring and has plenty of achievements as well as an All-Star honor. It is hard to see Volquez not be a Royal, but his career continues in a encouraging fashion as a Marlin with his great character and memories of Ventura.
