Kansas City Chiefs: How Did Rest of AFC West Fare in 2017 NFL Draft
I think I have to give the best draft in the division to the Denver Broncos, who picked up several great “steals”.

Sure the Chiefs had a nice draft, but none of their guys will really be able to contribute right off the bat. A lot of them will be projects, but the Chiefs’ entire 2017 NFL Draft will hinge on how Patrick Mahomes does in the pros.
If Mahomes becomes the franchise quarterback in Kansas City, then no one will care if none of the other picks in this draft don’t pan out. If Mahomes fails, however, then this draft will be looked at a disappointment, mainly because the Chiefs traded up 17 spots to grab him and surrendered a first round pick in 2018 as a result.
I liked Denver’s draft because they were able to snag guys like Jake Butt and Chad Kelly late in the draft. Both of those guys have the ability to start in the NFL, but both also sustained injuries near the end of their 2016 campaigns. Kelly also had a lot of character issues during his time at Clemson and Ole Miss (and afterwards), which is concerning, but being Mr. Irrelevant in this draft makes it much less of a problem if he doesn’t pan out.

The Raiders were smart to go after defensive players, as that was certainly their weak spot a season ago. The Chargers also looked to shore up their weaker positions, grabbing offensive linemen and safeties.
What did you think of the other teams’ drafts this year?
