JASON VARGAS

No one expected Jason Vargas to be the best starter on the Royals this season, but through three starts, he has been. Vargas is currently spotting a sparkling ERA of 0.44 and a 3-0 record.

While I don’t see Vargas continuing this dominance down the stretch, he’s been unhittable so far. He’s struck out 23 batters while only walking two and has just instilled confidence with the fans that when Vargas goes out there, he’s going to get the job done on the mound.

Who would have guessed that Jason Vargas would have outpitched Madison Bumgarner last week? Nobody. He did though and he’s put the Royals in good shape to win every single outing, even with how bad the offense has been.

Something that I find interesting is that no one is discussing Jason Vargas as being a trade piece. Vargas is in the last year of his contract and if he keeps pitching this well, you bet your sweet bippy that he’ll be one of the highly sought after pitchers at the trade deadline. The Royals could probably get two or three legitimate prospects for him too.

Vargas will get the ball in Monday’s game against the White Sox.
