The Kansas City Chiefs have not had much luck when it comes to drafting quarterbacks and this list proves it.

Sorry for the trip down depression lane, but I thought this type of post would be interesting. The Chiefs have only started seven quarterbacks that the organization has drafted. SEVEN. That’s insane.

More from KC Kingdom

The most well-known stat is that before Patrick Maohmes, no quarterback had been drafted by the Chiefs in the first round since 1983 with the Todd Blackledge selection. The pressure will be on for Patrick Mahomes as he’ll attempt to do something in Kansas City that no quarterback has been able to do before: Be drafted by the team and become their franchise starter.

The last drafted Chiefs quarterback to even start a game for Kansas City was Brodie Croyle in 2006, who went on to do absolutely nothing as a Chief. Croyle struggled to stay healthy and played for the team in an era where winning was hard to come by. He went 0-10 as a starter and was out of the league after the 2010 season.

Most of the players listed in this post are nobodies though. Doug Hudson is only a name someone would know if they really knew their Chiefs history. David Jaynes might be more well known due to playing for KU, but doubtful. The rest are guys that probably won’t be mentioned in another article on KC Kingdom again (unless it’s a similar post to this).

This is an interesting list and it’s a lot less depressing now that Mahomes is a Chief. It’d be nice to see the first round signal caller contribute to the organization for years to come. That’s the biggest dream for anyone in Chiefs Kingdom.
