KU Basketball has gained two more prospects for the era of the athletic backcourt. Guards K.J. Lawson and Dedric Lawson have announced their transfer to Kansas.

What a grab for Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks! An already promising backcourt with the announced return of Devonte’ Graham and signee Billy Preston just got loaded next year as well with the transfer of two standout guards from Memphis.

These transfers now have Kansas undoubtedly looking like the team with the best future in college basketball. The Lawson brothers both have stats abound to back up their great performance for the Tigers.

K.J. Lawson was a star player for the Tigers. Last season he recorded an average of 12.3 points, eight total rebounds, three assists, and a 39.9 field goal percentage per SportsReference. Dedric Lawson has had similar numbers, holding a 19.2 point average, 9.9 total rebounds, 3.3 assists, and a 46.1 field goal percentage via the same source.

During their stint at Memphis, the Lawson brothers were performance players. They led Memphis to wins against the Iowa Hawkeyes and Big 12 opponent Oklahoma. These brothers are not your typical transfers.

These players have sought out dynamic offensive and defensive roles at their respectable Memphis program. While doing so, they garnered attention from programs across the board like a five-star high school recruit.

The Lawson brothers heading to Lawrence is very assuring for Jayhawk fans. Since Devonte’ Graham is heading into his senior season, Lawson and Lawson should be greatly appreciated on the backcourt.

A now likely lineup for the 2018-19 season should be Lagerald Vick leading the point with the Lawson brothers backing him up on both sides. That is a scary proposition considering KU basketball continues to load up for the future.

Hopefully, a National Championship comes soon because Bill Self looks like he is pulling out all the stops to get there.

After having extremely consistent stretches of KU Basketball it seems that consistency will continue for years to come. Is a 14th straight Big 12 title guaranteed yet? No, but two five-star transfers make it look a whole lot more realistic.
