We’re only seven games into the 2017 MLB season, but the KC Royals have one bullpen arm that has stood out above the rest so far. That reliever is Peter Moylan, who still has a 0.00 ERA in five appearances.

One of the last offseason additions for the Kansas City Royals this past winter was relief pitcher Peter Moylan. Moylan had been an under the radar name for the team in 2016, pitching 44.2 innings and posting an ERA of 3.43.

All offseason long, Royals fans had wanted the team to bring back Moylan, as the rest of the bullpen was full of a lot of newcomers or young guys. The Royals did so late into Spring Training and Moylan made his case for pitching in Kansas City with the major league team.

Through the team’s seven games, Peter Moylan has appeared in five and has still yet to give up a run. He’s been fantastic on the mound and has emerged as the best relief pitcher for the Kansas City Royals at the moment.

The bullpen has been a big ol’ question mark so far into the season, but Moylan exiting the bullpen gives the fan base faith that the Royals won’t implode in that inning.

The most impressive outing for Moylan so far was this past Monday against the Oakland Athletics. Moylan pitched a scoreless seventh inning and a scoreless eighth inning and threw only 17 pitches in the process. That’s clutch, mate.

Watching guys like Matt Strahm and Travis Wood struggle out of the pen hasn’t been fun. Strahm walked in the winning run against the Astros on Sunday and has yet to escape from an inning without getting beat up a little bit by the opposing team. Wood has also struggled, coming over from the Cubs this offseason.

While I think Wood will turn it around, Strahm could probably use some work in the minor leagues for a few weeks, if not months.

In the meantime, however, Peter Moylan provides a reliable arm out of that bullpen. Heading into the season, I did some bold predictions and pegged Mike Minor as eventually being the second best bullpen arm. It’s still early and that certainly could still happen, but I never would have guessed that Peter Moylan would have started the season off as THE best bullpen arm.

Yes, even better than Kelvin Herrera (though that blown save wouldn’t have occurred in any other ball park) at the moment. That won’t last though. Herrera is still nails and will be a great closer for the KC Royals.

How long do you think Peter Moylan will keep this dominance up for?
