It’s only four games into the 2017 MLB season, but designated hitter Brandon Moss has been anything but a designated hitter in his first three games of the season. He’s yet to record a hit.

Brandon Moss was signed this offseason to become that power guy in the Kansas City Royals‘ lineup. Many hoped this was the move that would cancel out Kendrys Morales bolting for Canada to play for the hated Blue Jays.

Sure, it’s still very early in the season, but Moss has yet to record a single hit while donning a KC Royals uniform. That’s concerning for a guy the Royals brought in to be the power hitter.

Moss, who has only started three games (Cheslor Cuthbert was the designated hitter in Game 2 against the Twins), is still posting that ugly 0.00 batting average. He did walk three times against the Astros on Friday evening, but also struck out against Mike Fiers.

Moss has never been a great “batting average guy”, but he’s a power hitter for sure. He’s belted at least 20 home runs in all but one year since 2012, and the one year he didn’t hit 20, he hit 19.

The last time Brandon Moss posted a batting average above .250 was in 2013 when he was a member of the Oakland Athletics. Since then, he’s been a below average hitter, but a batter who can crush home runs.

Moss has also shown that he’s not afraid of the spacious Kauffman Stadium, crushing home run after home run during his career. Perhaps all he needs is for the Royals to head home so that he can find a park where he performs well in.

We’re only four games into the season, but when seeing that Kendrys Morales hit a grand slam with Toronto, it’s getting a little tough to swallow letting him go and bringing in Brandon Moss instead.

Hopefully Moss can find a groove here soon because the Royals are going to need his bat to heat up if they want to contend this season. With Jorge Soler injured, Moss is the power guy and that role cannot be understated when it comes to these Kansas City Royals.

In the first four games, the only four home runs have come from Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez, both with two homers a piece. So, at least some Royals are hitting for power… even if it’s not the designated hitter.
