Matt Besler – Defender
It’s nice to have members of the national team on your roster, and Sporting KC has several. One of those is defender Matt Besler who has also been a mainstay for the Kansas City defense. Besler is currently recovering from surgery to clean up some bone spurs in his ankle. However, the star defender is expected to be back in time for the start of the season.
There may not be many players for Sporting KC more beloved than Matt Besler. On top of being a star for the team and a member of the USMNT, Besler is also a local boy. Not only is the Overland Park native a local boy, but he has chosen Sporting KC over international offers several times. That is a surefire way to endear yourself to the fan base.
Matt Besler will be responsible for anchoring the Sporting KC defense. While he’ll get some help from guys like Graham Zusi, it is Besler who carries most of the weight there. He will be responsible for keeping Tim Melia in a position to succeed. A simple rule in sports is that it is always easier to beat an opponent if you don’t let the score.
