There may not have been a bigger story for Sporting KC this offseason than the re-signing of Benny Feilhaber. The veteran midfielder is a fan favorite, but more importantly a legitimate scoring threat. Though older than most of his teammates, Feilhaber has consistently proven to be one of the best players in the league.

Keeping Benny Feilhaber on the roster also means another member of the USMNT is playing for Kansas City. That kind of national and international exposure is good for the brand and should help attract other players. Talent draws talent as star players in pro sports tend to want to stick together.

Above all else though, Benny Feilhaber has the credentials to be an effective captain for Sporting KC. His resume includes both experience and accomplishment, so it will be tough for others to look past him. That can be a huge help to coach Peter Vermes on a team with so much youth.
