The Kansas City Royals might have found their designated hitter for the next two seasons, as they locked up first baseman and outfielder Brandon Moss on a two-year contract worth $12 million.

The KC Royals signed a slugger on Sunday afternoon, inking first baseman and outfielder Brandon Moss to a two-year deal that will pay the free agent $12 million over the next two seasons.

The signing fills a big need for the Royals at the designated hitter spot and now guys like Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas can play their preferred positions rather than having to DH.

Moss also can play first base and has spent time in the outfield, so there are four other areas to place him in should Ned Yost to decide to give one of the other guys a day off.

Moss has spent the last two seasons on the other side of Missouri with the St. Louis Cardinals. He slashed .225/.300/.484 in 128 games last season and belted 28 home runs and plated 67 RBI for the Cardinals. Moss hit .250 during his short stint with St. Louis in 2015, after being traded there by the Indians at the deadline.

Something else to take into consideration with this is that Moss can indeed play first base. He very well could be the main first baseman in 2018 should Eric Hosmer depart in free agency.

This is not a signing that any of us really saw coming. Royals fans have been expecting the team to sign a free agent pitcher to a contract, especially after the tragic passing of Yordano Ventura last weekend.

Moss will fill an immediate need though and this is a guy who is good enough to put in the lineup every day. His home run numbers are just what the Kansas City Royals need and hopefully he can put up similar stats in 2017 while wearing a Royals jersey.

At the end of the day, I like this signing. The Royals needed an every day designated hitter and now they have one with Brandon Moss. He can also spend time in the outfield and at first base and relieve some of those guys should they need a day off to rest.

Moss did have a lousy September, only batting .084 with the Cardinals last season. Hopefully he can break out of that slump and become a true designated hitter for the Royals, the way Kendrys Morales was the past two years.

What do you think of this signing, Royals fans? Are you excited for Brandon Moss to be a member of the KC Royals for the next two seasons?
