Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Alabama Defensive Tackle Jonathan Allen
The Kansas City Chiefs have always been a team that wants to have the best defense as humanly possible. Could Jonathan Allen out of Alabama be an option for them come draft day?
The KC Chiefs had a good defense last season when it came to the amount of points they’d allow to their opponents. In the grand scheme of things, however, the defense couldn’t put pressure on the quarterback and they couldn’t stop the run.
Both of those things are crucial to having an elite defense, something that the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t far from.
Jonathan Allen out of Alabama could be the answer to Kansas City’s hopes and dreams when it comes to having a feared defense. Allen has the ability to rush the quarterback and to stop the run, which are the Chiefs biggest weaknesses on defense.
Allen, a four-year starter at Alabama and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, is projected as the second best player in this draft behind Myles Garrett, according to CBS Sports. That means that the Chiefs’ chances of landing him are very slim, but not as slim as drafting Garrett.

During Allen’s four years as a member of the Crimson Tide, he registered 28 sacks, including 12 during his junior year in 2015. He had 10.5 this past year. Allen also had 152 tackles with 44.5 of them being for lost yards.
Pretty much every mock draft has Jonathan Allen being selected in the top five, but those that don’t literally have him at sixth or seventh overall. He’s going to be an electrifying pass rusher and that makes him dropping to the Chiefs at 27th overall very unrealistic.
Hell, Carl Cockerham of With the First Pick had Allen going number one overall to the Browns in his mock draft. Cockerham wrote,
"The Browns have three great quarterbacks in their division, so they need to be able to get after them. And putting Allen in there at the 3-technique with Ogbah outside would help the Browns do that. Many a great defense has been built around a interior D-lineman and Allen is worthy of that."

As I said in my Myles Garrett scouting report, this is a prospect who, in all likelihood, is not going to be a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. He could end up having a poor showing at the Combine or something else could surface to make his draft stock plummet, but don’t get your hopes up for him, Chiefs Kingdom. He’ll likely be drafted within the first five picks.
What do you make of Jonathan Allen, Chiefs fans? Would he be worth trading up for?
