Kansas City sports have been a lot of fun to watch over the past few years. With winning, however, come the fair weather fans and they’re in full force recently.

I currently live in Minnesota after being born and raised in Kansas City. Being away from KC for the last two years makes me realize how great the actual city is.

I love and miss my family obviously, I totally miss the great food and the wonderful barbecue the city is famous for. The closest thing resembling barbecue up here in the frozen tundra is Famous Dave’s, which is okay for a chain, but nothing compared to Joe’s or Arthur Bryant’s. I am getting hungry just thinking about all the great places to eat in Kansas City.

I am also a die hard Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals fan and have been my whole life.

What I don’t get is that Kansas City seems to have some of the worst fair weather fans in the country (okay, Philly and New York are probably worse, but you get my point).

The Royals made it to World Series in 2014, granted they lost to San Francisco, but the very next year the Royals made it to the big game again and won it against the Mets.

It was one of the best feelings I have had as an adult. I was absolutely ecstatic for what my favorite baseball team had accomplished. Kansas City lost its mind, as it was something us Royals fans never really expected to happen in our lifetime.

More from KC Kingdom

One would think that winning the World Series would give a fan base’s team some breathing room, but nope. In 2016, the Royals didn’t do as well and ended up being third in the AL Central with a .500 record and 13.5 games behind Cleveland, who would go on to lose in the World Series.

There were a lot of fans grumbling and even calling into talk radio shows demanding David Glass fire manager Ned Yost and general manager Dayton Moore. Are you kidding me? These two guys have given us something all fans had only dreamed of in a World Championship.

The same thing can be said about the KC Chiefs. The Chiefs have made it to the playoffs in three out of four years under head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey.

These two men have given the Chiefs stability, which is very hard to achieve in the NFL. Just look at the Buffalo Bills or the Los Angeles Rams they have been in constant flux for years.  The Chiefs have been contenders every year under this regime and that’s worth appreciating.

Do I need to remind every one of all the bad teams we have witnessed over the years? Herm Edwards, the Scott Pioli experiment, Todd Haley, just to name a few.

Not even a week ago, however, there were haters or fair weather fans saying the Chiefs need to get rid of both Alex Smith and Reid after the Tennessee Titans barely beat the Chiefs.

Where is all the hate coming from? I fully support Smith, Reid, Dorsey, Yost and Moore. Just believe in the process and good things will happen. Fans have to keep the faith.

I personally would like to thank everyone in the Royals and the Chiefs organizations for all of their hard work, putting together teams we can follow and enjoy. Kansas City sports are at their peak and it’s all thanks to the guys behind the scenes putting the teams together and the guys who run the teams on the field/diamond. Oh and the players too. They’re pretty important obviously.

Kansas City sports fans need to sit back and enjoy this time in the city’s history. Life’s too short to be angry about things you can’t control.
