Royals Rumors: Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas Could Be Traded

facebooktwitterreddit

The Royals rumors just aren’t slowing down. Trade talks are seriously heating up for the Kansas City Royals, with some of the biggest stars on the team being linked to Royals rumors.

If you’re a Royals fan who can’t bare with Wade Davis and Jarrod Dyson being traded away, you might want to stop reading here because it could get much worse.

According to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and even Lorenzo Cain could be on the trade block before the 2017 season begins. Cafardo’s reasoning is that the team knows they can’t keep all three moving forward and therefore, it might make sense to trade one of those guys.

"It’s hard to tell if the Royals would talk about any of their top would-be free agents — Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, or Mike Moustakas — but they may part with one of them before the season starts because they can’t afford to keep all three."

It’s been an interesting offseason for the Kansas City Royals, as more guys have been traded than fans had expected. We all figured that the 2017 season would be one last hoorah with this current core of players, but Dayton Moore has proven that he wants to continue to be a contender beyond 2017 and not just go all in.

More from KC Kingdom

He’s seeing what he can get for players by adding other guys with several years of club control. That’s smart when building for the future.

Connor Byrne of MLB Trade Rumors added to the Royals rumors by mentioning the team is interested in Aaron Hill and Trevor Plouffe. Hill is capable of playing second and third base and Plouffe has experience at first and third base.

The KC Royals being interested in both of these guys could justify why Hosmer and Moustakas are on the trade block. If Moore doesn’t see a possibility of re-signing either of these guys, then it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see one (or both) get traded.

With Dyson just being shipped off to Seattle, I doubt Lorenzo Cain gets traded unless a team is offering to give up something big for him. Hosmer and Moose, on the other hand, could be playing for another team in 2017.

Next: Eric Hosmer's Five Biggest Moments

Over a month ago, Ken Rosenthal had reported that Hosmer would likely stay in Kansas City due to wanting to keep him a Royal long-term. Things can change pretty quickly though, and perhaps Moore now doesn’t see that happening. It is worth noting that Hosmer and Dyson were pretty good friends. Perhaps that move changed things for Hosmer. Who knows?

While it’d be sad for Cain, Hosmer, or Moustakas to get moved, this is a business. Dayton Moore is going to do what he has to do in order for his team to continue to be contenders and compete.
