K-State basketball news is all about how the Wildcats lost to the Kansas Jayhawks on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. It was a tough loss for KSU fans.

With less ten seconds to go in their second Big 12 game of the year, the Kansas State Wildcats were so close to forcing overtime against the big, bad Kansas Jayhawks. Instead… The Jayhawks won in the final seconds despite Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk literally WALKING to the basket to make the game-winning shot.

It was a tough loss for K-State basketball, but there’s certainly a lot to take out of this game. The most important aspect being that the Kansas State Wildcats nearly upset the Jayhawks on their home turf! That right there is huge and cannot be understated.

K-State was making shots right and left, but when it came down to it, they didn’t stop Mykhailiuk from making the biggest play of the night and suffered the consequence. Sure, the referees should have called the walk, but there are blown calls all the time, and it’s best to try and move past this.

The good news is that there will be a rematch between the two Sunflower State squads, which will take place on Monday, February 6th. That match will be in Manhattan and you have to believe that the Wildcat fans will be crazy for that game.

K-State basketball dropped to 12-2 with a 1-1 record in conference play. Their two losses have been by narrow margins and there’s definitely a lot to like about this team moving forward.

"With just 5.6 seconds on the clock, Kansas inbounded the ball and eventually got the ball in the hands of Mykhailiuk, who was just inside the mid-court line at the time. He then proceeded towards the rim in what looked like a travel, but the whistle was never blown."

Losing sucks, of course, but what’s gotten lost in all of this controversial traveling discussion is that K-State basketball played damn well in this game. They put up 88 points on the third-ranked Jayhawks and nearly beat them in Allen Fieldhouse, a place where the Jayhawks don’t lose… Ever.

Kansas State will need to swallow their pride and move on quickly, as their next opponent will come this Saturday against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners are 6-7 on the year and 0-2 in the Big 12. They’ve dropped off a lot since contending with Kansas for the conference title last season.

While the final result was an unfortunate one, the Wildcats will bounce back and I think I speak for all of Kansas State fans when I say that I can’t wait for February 6th.
