KC Chiefs news consists of the injury to long-time Chief Derrick Johnson and also about the playoff run that the team is currently embarking on. The Chiefs would be the two-seed if the season ended today.

Kansas City Chiefs fans are stoked about this year’s team, but there was bad news that surfaced from the game on Thursday night. That news was linebacker Derrick Johnson going down with a non-contact injury and it being reported that he had ruptured his Achilles.

The injury will end Johnson’s season and possibly his career as well. Johnson had ruptured his other Achilles just two seasons ago and came back from it, but at his age and now having suffered the same injury twice, it’d be tough to return and be effective.

Obviously this news sucks because Derrick Johnson is one of the best defensive players on the team, but the main thing that blows about it is that if the KC Chiefs do make it to the Super Bowl, DJ wouldn’t get to be apart of it. No one in this town deserves a Super Bowl ring more than Derrick Johnson.

DJ played on this team during some horrendous times and he’s stuck with us. He’s a true warrior and one of the all-time greats to wear a Kansas City Chiefs uniform.

The better news out of the game, however, is that the Chiefs did indeed defeat the Oakland Raiders on national television. The victory put the Chiefs at 10-3 on the season, the same record as Oakland, but gives them the edge because they swept the Raiders.

If the season ended today, Kansas City would be the two-seed in the AFC and would host the higher seed out of the Wild Card round.

Here’s what’s trending around FanSided in KC Chiefs news.

"While you certainly can’t simply snap your fingers and replace a player like D.J. (he’s a Chiefs Hall of Famer for a reason) the team does have serviceable to good depth at the position."

It’s been a fun season for fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, but losing Derrick Johnson is definitely a bummer. The guy has chosen to remain right here in Kansas City and fans love him for that.

Now the KC Chiefs have to go out there and win the Super Bowl for DJ. He deserves it after all that he’s done for this franchise.

Despite the loss of Johnson, the Chiefs are in the driver’s seat as far as their playoff destination goes. They’re currently in the second seed in the AFC, but have to keep winning. That’s the only one to ensure that they’ll have a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Keep rolling, boys!
