The KC Chiefs will have their toughest game in the span of nearly a month when they travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday. This game is very meaningful and a win could convince the nation that the Chiefs are for real.
With four straight wins in their pocket, the Kansas City Chiefs will face their first real test since their week five match-up against the Raiders. That game was about a month ago, and began the Chiefs’ winning ways.
I’m convinced that if the Kansas City Chiefs can pull out a victory against the Carolina Panthers, then we can put them in the category of legitimate contenders in the AFC.
You see, right now it’s tough to decipher who the really good teams are in the NFL because there really just aren’t a lot of good teams. We have a lot of really bad teams and then a lot of mediocre teams, but the only really GREAT team right now is the New England Patriots.

Kansas City sits with a 6-2 record, but aren’t even in first place in their division. That belongs to the Raiders, who are 7-2 and have a bye this week.
If the Chiefs fall in Carolina, they’ll be 6-3 on the year and in second place in the division. Denver will play the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday, so the results of that game are important too, but Kansas City NEEDS to come home with a win on Sunday to keep pace in the division.
Also, if they defeat the Panthers, they’d have the lead in the division due to beating Oakland already. That win back in week five is going to be huge down the stretch, but it’s only meaningful if the Chiefs keep winning.
I’m not super optimistic about Kansas City winning on the road in Carolina this weekend, as they’re incredibly banged up right now. Alex Smith and Spencer Ware will be back in action, but Jeremy Maclin is likely going to miss time.
Hopefully Justin Houston sees some time on the field because if nothing else, he could cause some double teaming action on him and Dee Ford can sneak in and get some sacks on Newton.
While the Panthers are only 3-5, they’re trying to do what Kansas City did last year in starting off poorly and rattling off wins the last ten weeks of the regular season and be playoff bound.

Both teams have a chance to make a huge statement this weekend, but Carolina gets the benefit of being able to do so at home in front of their fans.
If the KC Chiefs go to Carolina and win, then I think their chances of winning the AFC West are very good. If they lose, I still predict they’ll make it to the playoffs, but they’ll be back one game in the division and will have to make up ground and hope that Oakland chokes along the way.
