Ugly: Not Putting the Game Away/Fourth Quarter

Look, Iowa State is not a good football program, at least not this year. Kansas State should have manhandled them in this one, but they just couldn’t put the Cyclones away.

With a 17-3 lead at the half, the Wildcats were getting the ball back in the second half to try and extend their lead, but the Cyclones pulled off a successful onside kick.

That was a huge gain of momentum for Iowa State, as the crazy Homecoming crowd was smelling a potential upset for their 1-6 football team.

More from KC Kingdom

Despite knowing that K-State was the better football team in this one, I kept thinking this game could end with a disappointing loss.

A huge play for Kansas State and what likely sealed a victory for them was when Jacob Park couldn’t convert with his receiver on a fourth and goal with seven minutes left to go in the game.

After that play, however, Charles Jones was tackled in the end zone for a safety and the Cyclones got the ball right back. Fortunately after that, the Cyclones turned the ball over on downs, but they did score with less than a minute left to go in the game.

Kansas State should have taken control of this game early and never looked back, but instead, we were all nervously pacing around our living rooms.

The fourth quarter was just a downright disaster and could have led to the Wildcats dropped yet another game on the road. As mentioned before, the defense gave up 200 yards in the fourth quarter alone, and allowed Iowa State to put up 16 points to close out the game.

Not good. Just plain ugly, man.
