The Kansas City Chiefs were busy making roster moves today. The team announced they made a trade, waived a player and put two starting defenders on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

This morning, the KC Chiefs organization shipped off running back Knile Davis for a conditional draft pick to the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers are dealing with a hoard of running back injuries and needed a fresh body to be an emergency starter. It helps when that guy has been there and done it in the league before.

Davis compiled 233 rushes for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Kansas City Chiefs across parts of three season as a pure running back. He started just two games for the Chiefs but he helped spell Jamaal Charles a few times and played above average.

He played primary kick returner for the Chiefs after losing his job as a running back to Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West last season. Davis took the game starting kickoff for a touchdown in last years 30-0 blowout win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card game.

This afternoon, Chiefs Kingdom found out that two starting defenders were placed on the injured reserve list. Starting defense end, Allen Bailey,  will miss the rest of the year with a shoulder injury. Bailey didn’t put up eye-popping statistics this season. In fact, he has just five tackles through five games played.

Last season may have been Bailey’s best season as a Kansas City Chiefs player. He accumulated 4.5 sacks, forced two fumbles and tallied 26 tackles as well. The guy that should replace him is rookie second round pick from this year’s draft, Chris Jones.

Jones has looked great in the little time he’s seen the field this season. Here is a snippet of what might be coming more often for the Kansas City Chiefs defense.

In the film, Jones throws aside the offensive lineman and destroys the Raiders running back. I’m excited to see more of these types of plays from Jones. He looks like a special kind of player with a lot of upside. More playing time should help him grow and become even better. Watch out NFL, this guy looks like the real deal.

Another guy that could fill in for Bailey is newly signed Kendall Reyes. Reyes played for the San Diego Chargers for four seasons before moving onto the Washington Redskins. He stacked up 13.5 sacks all for the Chargers. He started in 50 of 66 games so far in his career.

Reyes is a big man, weighing in at 6’4″ 300 pounds. If I was a quarterback, I would fear this man headed for me. Hopefully, Reyes can add a much-needed pass rush for the Chiefs this season.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The other Chiefs member to be placed on injured reserve today was Justin March-Lillard with a hand injury. This is his second straight season on the injured reserve list.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed March-Lillard as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He didn’t start last year due to a hip injury he sustained during a 2015 training camp session.

March-Lillard played pretty well this season before the injury. He amassed 15 tackles, two passes defended and seven assists through five games played.

He’s no Derrick Johnson but these are decent numbers for the second year player.

The Chiefs signed a linebacker, Ramik Wilson, to the active roster. It isn’t known if Wilson will start in place of March-Lillard or not. Wilson appeared in 11 games last season starting in two. He tallied one fumble recovery, a touchdown, 13 tackles and seven assists. Not a bad signing. He’s got potential.

Kansas City also signed a cornerback, Terrance Mitchell and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches also were signed to the active roster.

Mitchell played for the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys last season. He played in eight games recording an interception, two passes defended, one forced fumble, one sack, nine tackles and three assists. Looks like he did a little bit of everything. This guy should see the field sometime soon.

Rakeem Nunez-Roches got drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2015 draft. He played in seven games last season managing seven tackles. He should see a little bit more playing time this season due to the injuries on the defensive line.

The Kansas City Chiefs also waived defensive lineman Nick Williams. Williams played for the Chiefs for parts of three season. He appeared in 21 games and acquired nine tackles and five assists.

It stinks to lose a couple of higher upside guys on defense but hopefully some of these younger men can step up. Chris Jones should not lose this job now. He’s that good. I’m interested in seeing what Mitchell has at cornerback. The Chiefs need help at the position.

Who are you most interested in watching out of the guys the Chiefs signed today? I’m most interested in Chris Jones but I’m wondering about Terrance Mitchell.
