The KC Royals haven’t put together the type of 2016 season that fans had hoped for. They can still, however, post a winning record for the fourth straight season. That should be the goal as the season nears the end.

If you had told me at the end of the 2012 season that the Kansas City Royals would go on to post three straight winning seasons, I’d have probably laughed at you. If you had then tacked on to that, that they’d make it to two World Series (not to mention win one of them), I’d have probably spit my Diet Coke out of my nose from shock.

The Royals did just that though, and it was a magical three seasons of baseball in Kansas City.

Sure, the 2016 season wasn’t as magical, but the Royals can still make it count. They won’t be repeating as World Series champions or going to the playoffs this year, but they can still finish the year off with a winning record.

More from KC Kingdom

All the KC Royals need to do is win three more games, which is quite doable. They have the Minnesota Twins coming to town on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and the Royals have dominated the Twinkies this season. Hopefully those three wins can guarantee them an above .500 record.

If the Royals can accomplish that task, it’ll only be the second time in franchise history that the team posted four straight winning seasons (the only other time was between 1975-1980).

This might not seem like a big deal, and honestly in theory, it’s not. The Royals missed the playoffs, which sucks. The team was pretty much in it for the entire season though and a winning season will only help the players gain that confidence and swagger back for next season.

As we all know, 2017 is a “last chance” season for the Kansas City Royals to win another World Series with this group of guys. After 2017, Lorenzo Cain, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy, Alcides Escobar, Eric Hosmer, and Mike Moustakas (surely there are others I left off) are all hitting free agency.

There’s no way in hell the Royals will be able to bring back all of those guys (maybe two of them tops), so 2017 is one last ride. What better way to prepare for that season than by finishing above .500 this season?

Kansas City has six games left in the 2016 season. They need to win half of those in order to finish above .500 in 2016.

Do you think the Kansas City Royals can finish this season with a winning record?
