Reasons Royals Missed Playoffs in 2016 – Number 1: Injuries

Without a doubt, the thing that hurt the KC Royals the most this year was injuries. Early in the year, Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon got tangled up while going for a foul ball. Moose was named out for the year, and Gordon missed about two months.

The injuries continued all season long though. Here are all of the major names to hit the disabled list at any point this season: Gordon, Moustakas, Salvador Perez, Wade Davis, Lorenzo Cain, Chris Young, Kris Medlen, Luke Hochevar, and Jarrod Dyson.

Those are some big names in that group! It’s crazy how well the Royals actually did this season considering all of the injuries they had, and things just not going their way.

The 2014 and 2015 seasons went smoothly for the Kansas City Royals because their team was relatively healthy. This year, they didn’t have the same type of luck and we saw what happened.

Injuries can happen to anyone, but the Royals got hit HARD with them this year. It was the biggest factor in them not making the postseason in 2016.
