The Kansas City Chiefs are set for a late kickoff on Sunday against the New York Jets in what is a “must-win” game for Kansas City.

It might seem ridiculous to already be saying that games are “must-win” for the KC Chiefs, but Sunday’s match-up against the New York Jets is just that.

Kansas City sits at 1-1 on the season and really don’t want to be digging themselves out of a 1-2 hole. Not only that, but the schedule doesn’t get easier over the next few weeks.

The Chiefs are at home on Sunday, but next week they’ll square off against the Pittsburgh Steelers at their house. Oh, and it’s on Sunday Night Football.

The Steelers have one of the best fanbases in all of sports. Having to play them on their turf is bad enough, but when you throw in that it’s a primetime game… Yeah, no thanks. The Chiefs are probably going to drop that game.

So, to sum up, if the Chiefs lose on Sunday and then lose again next week, they’ll be 1-3. That’s a HUGE hole to have to dig yourselves out of early in the season.

The game after that, the Kansas City Chiefs will be in the Black Hole against Oakland (after a bye week, might I add). The Raiders haven’t been as clutch as people were calling them to be (especially Charles Woodson on NFL Countdown… Drives me nuts with how much he talks about them), but they can put up points.

Even when the Chiefs and Raiders were both bad teams, the games were can’t miss. This season will be no exception.

The Chiefs cannot lose to the Jets on Sunday because if they do, their season could be over.

Now, I know what you’re going to say. “Leigh, the Chiefs started last year 1-5 and still ended up being a playoff team!”

Okay, first of all, I know. I was there watching when all of that happened. Second, as impressive of a feat as that was a season ago, don’t count on the KC Chiefs to pull off that kind of magic every year.

It’d be easier yet if the Chiefs could win the games that they should, and the game against New York is one of those. The Jets are an offensive juggernaut, but the Chiefs’ defense looked better last week in Houston. They must stop the Jets from running up and down the field.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs offense, anything is better than that debacle we witnessed last week against the Texans. Alex Smith is better than how he played last week, and the offensive line has to let him show that.

In conclusion, if the KC Chiefs drop this game to the New York Jets, then their season might be over before it really even began. The Denver Broncos will be in the running as long as their defense continues to be legit, and the Raiders aren’t the same Raiders of old. Also, the Chargers are 1-1 as well.

It’s wide open in the AFC West, and the Kansas City Chiefs can’t lose ground early on in the season.
