The Denver Broncos made the announcement that they’ll be starting former seventh-round draft pick Trevor Siemian in week one against the Panthers. This really helps the KC Chiefs.

Okay, look. I’m not a Denver Broncos fan, that much is obvious. I grew up in Kansas City and have loathed the Broncos for my entire life.

With that said, this post is not a knock on the Broncos’ organization. The team just won a Super Bowl for crying out loud!

I respect what the team was able to do last season with having one of the best defenses ever. The point of this article is to merely show that the Kansas City Chiefs will have a clear upper hand over the Broncos this season due to the quarterback position.

In years past, the Chiefs were typically considered the team to have the “worst” quarterback in the division. That’s because in years past, Peyton Manning was his Hall of Fame self (minus last year), the Chargers had Philip Rivers, and Derek Carr was climbing up the quarterback charts.

Alex Smith is good, but he’s not better than Manning or Rivers. Carr, maybe, but this year could be a pretty close battle between the two as to who is better.

With Manning (finally) retiring after last season, the Broncos were in a predicament. Brock Osweiler felt disrespected by the team and opted to sign with the Texans instead (and for HUGE money), leaving the Broncos further screwed.

They ended up signing Mark Sanchez and drafting Paxton Lynch in the first round of this year’s draft. Many, myself included, thought that the Denver quarterback battle would be between those two. Hell, I didn’t even know who Trevor Siemian was.

Now, however, Denver is choosing to go with the unknown, and as a Chiefs fan, that excites me.

The Broncos will face Carolina in the season opener, and you just know the Panthers defense will be licking their chops knowing they’ll be squaring off against a quarterback who hasn’t attempted a single NFL pass.

Sure, Denver has one of the best defenses in all of football, but Carolina’s is pretty good too. They probably can’t wait to blow through that Broncos offensive line and put the smackdown on Siemian.

Of course, all that matters at the end of the day is that the KC Chiefs are going out there and winning games. If they don’t do that, then none of this matters.

At the same time though, having a young inexperienced quarterback starting games for one of your biggest rivals, only helps your chances of winning the division. Now to make sure those pesky Raiders don’t get hot this year.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in a good position this season. They have one of their most talented rosters in recent history, and Alex Smith is coming off the best season of his entire career.

If the Chiefs can continue to feed off of last year’s late regular season/early postseason energy, they have the ability to make it pretty damn far.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Do you see Siemian costing the Broncos games or will it not be a big deal?
