The Missouri Tigers chose a quarterback for the 2016 season. Sophomore Drew Lock will take the position for his first full season as an South Eastern Conference (SEC) quarterback. What should Tigers fans expect from Lock this season?

Drew Lock dominated for Lee’s Summit High School during the 2014-2015 season. In ten games, he completed 206 out of 312 attempts for 2717 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions during his senior year of high school.

He became a four star recruit for the Missouri Tigers and one of the nations best quarterbacks coming out of high school. He went to the “Elite 11” quarterback competition in the northwest and trained with many star quarterbacks to get ready to play in the college ranks.

With all the hype around Lock, fans thought he would instantly dominate one of the best leagues of college football when he started for Mizzou last year. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The guy needed time to process the speed of the game and he didn’t have the time to do so in a shortened season.

Drew Lock didn’t impress fans last season. He shined in a few early games but couldn’t continue progress afterwards during the 2015 season. He probably wasn’t ready for the big stage but former quarterback, Maty Mauk, got kicked off the team due to a video scandal.

The scandal forced Lock to start for the black and gold a year in advanced. Lock played 12 games for the Missouri Tigers last season as a true freshman.  He threw the ball 263 times completing 129 passes for 1332 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Lee’s Summit graduate needs to improve if the Missouri Tigers hope to make a bowl game this season. He had a 90.5 passer rating last year. His yards per attempt weren’t good at 5.1 as well.

First year head coach, Barry Odom, said that Lock looks like a different quarterback this season, per Mizzou beat reporter, Tod Palmer.

"“When you look at what he’s done from the first day of fall camp until today, he looks like a different player”."

I would take Odom at his word. It seems as if camp helped the young man from western Missouri pick up the offense more. Mizzou fans can hope that’s the truth. The Missouri Tigers had a long stretch of no touchdowns scored last year. We don’t want to see that ever again.

Lock might have some competition this season. Fellow sophomore quarterback, Marvin Zanders, could see playing time for the Tigers.

This could be a sign of a two quarterback offense coming to the Missouri Tigers in 2016-2017 season. I usually am against that idea. I’d like to give one quarterback more reps so he can feel more comfortable in the offense as the season goes on. Unfortunately, that might not happen this year.

Hopefully one of the two quarterbacks will shine and get most of the playing time for the Missouri Tigers this season. Lock gets the start but he might not finish if he doesn’t show his potential.

You know the old saying “If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.” Let’s hope that’s not the case for the Mizzou Tigers this year.
