The Kansas City Chiefs put it all together in the preseason dress rehearsal game against the Chicago Bears. The team lit up Chicago’s quarterbacks and made a few plays on offense as well.

The Kansas City Chiefs showed a bit of everything today. Quarterback, Alex Smith, looked sharp. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 181 yards. Unfortunately, the Chiefs had a couple of nice drives deep into Bears territory but KC Chiefs first team offense couldn’t convert the drives into touchdowns.

The couple of drives that failed to score touchdowns were the only blemish on a near spotless performance for the KC Chiefs in the third preseason game.

The running back corp showed of its depth again against the Bears. Spencer Ware started another game for the men in red. He bulldozed his way to 24 yards on nine carries and a touchdown for 2.7 yards per carry. That’s not great but the touchdown helps.

Ware  scored the first touchdown for the KC Chiefs. He slammed his way into the end-zone through the heart of the Bears defense with ten seconds left in the first half. Kansas City took a 13 to 0 lead into the locker room.

Wide receiver, Chris Conley, made a couple of nice plays early for the KC Chiefs. He caught two passes for 30 yards while adding a few moves to avoid tackles as well. The young receiver out of the University of Georgia seems to be getting the trust of Alex Smith during the preseason.

Tight end, Demetrius Harris, hauled in a couple of passes as well. He just about broke two tackles and took one to the end-zone. That grab went for 19 yards. The former basketball player seems to be getting more comfortable in the Chiefs offense this season.

Field goal kicker, Cairo Santos, connected on three field goals and two extra points. He would have yielded someones fantasy team 11 points if this game counted. His longest field goal conversion came from 41-yards out today.

The most impressive players played on the defensive side of the football today. A couple of guys stood out to me in particular. Pass rushing specialists, Chris Jones and Dadi Nicolas. Both players instilled fear into the Chicago Bears quarterbacks.

Here’s a play were Jones attacks the center and nearly gets a sack.

The guy put pressure on the quarterback all day. He even added a batted ball at the line of scrimmage as well. It looks like the Chiefs may have drafted a special player with their first pick in the 2016 draft. Jones looks like a 1st round draft pick but the Chiefs got him in the second. Good value there.

Dadi Nicolas put a few licks on the Bears quarterbacks today. He just about cut through Brian Hoyer on a great pass rush late in the game. Nicolas hit Hoyer with so much force he knocked him out of the game for a while.

Nicolas might be raw but I like the effort I’m seeing from him early in his KC Chiefs career. Kansas City drafted Nicolas in the 6th round pick 203 overall in late April. That’s what you all a gigantic steal.

Veteran linebacker, Derrick Johnson, had himself a game. He racked up four tackles (three solo), a sack and two tackles for loss for the Chiefs. He nearly got another tackle for loss on running back, Jeremy Langford, but Langford found a way to avoid the tackle to create positive yards. Other than that, Johnson dominated.

Take a look at the sack Johnson laid on Jay Cutler. Cutler will be feeling the pain tomorrow if it hasn’t set in already.

The Kansas City Chiefs look ready for the start of the regular season. Things should only get better from here on. Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry and Tamba Hali should all play week one at home against the San Diego Chargers on September 11. Now we wait and see what the final 53-man roster will look like.

Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs will have to cut or trade some good players. That’s what happens when you have a great team. This is actually a good problem to have. Too much talent is better than not enough every day of the week.

The fourth and final preseason game will be played Thursday September 1 vs. the Green Bay Packers at Arrowhead Stadium. The guys fighting for the final few roster spots will look to impress the coaching staffs around the league that day. It should be another fun game to watch.
