The Kansas City Royals are back from a road trip in Detroit. While there, the team found another Rally Mantis. Rally Jr. made it back to Kansas City last night.

Kansas City Royals beat reporter, Scott Chasen, found out the news that Rally Jr. was still alive while talking to Kansas City Royals pitcher, Ian Kennedy.

Ian Kennedy hopes that Rally Jr. won’t bite the dust anytime soon. The Kansas City Royals are on a hot streak thanks in large part to the Mantis’ (or is it Mantes or mantises?). The KC Royals are 9-2 under the prayers from the Praying Mantis group

The first mantis appeared at Kauffman Stadium on August 6th. The Kansas City Royals rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 that evening. The Royals have won four series in a row since then.

The team seems intrigued by Rally Jr’s new home. I guess you could say they’re having a house-warming party. Some players gathered around the cage to watch Rally Jr. devour crickets. Oh the days we live in.

The cage itself is pretty awesome for a bug that doesn’t live that long. In fact, a Praying Mantis life span is six months tops. I hope Rally Jr. is a young fella. We need him for a playoff run and maybe a run during the playoffs.

Let’s do quick math. It’s August right now. In a month and a half the playoffs will begin. The World Series concludes the beginning of November. Rally Jr. would have to survive another 2 1/2 months if the Kansas City Royals make it that far.

More from KC Kingdom

Since we don’t know how old Rally Jr. is, we don’t know how long it will survive. The good news is, the KC Royals players can find many more mantis bugs during the season. If they can’t, they have a fake mantis in the clubhouse already. The fake mantis will not die, thankfully.

Most players in the Royals clubhouse are superstitious to some extent as are most ball players in general.  If the Rally Jr. brings the team good luck and more series victories, I’m all in.

Some African cultures believe if a Praying Mantis lands on someone’s head, that person receives good luck. This happened to Billy Burns on August 6th and the Royals won the game. Other African tribes believe that the mantis breathes fire and brings the dead back to life.

Zombie Night at “the K” is this Friday, so Rally Jr. will fit in nicely. Whatever brings the Royals luck, I suppose is a good thing. Keep it up Rally Jr.
