The Kansas City Royals have looked much better recently, but their recent heroics might just be too little too late for the boys in blue’s postseason chances.

Coming out of the All-Star break, the KC Royals disappointed greatly. They went on to win four games spanning from July 15th to the 31st and couldn’t score runs to save their lives.

Starting pitching looked bad too, once giving up 11 runs in a game and 13 runs in another. That 13 run game was also one where the Kansas City Royals offense decided not to show up.

The good news, however, is that the Royals have looked much better as of lately. They’ve notched three straight series wins and the starting pitching has really been clutch.

For one, there’s Danny Duffy. Duffy is easily the MVP of this team this season. He started the season in the bullpen, but was pushed back into the rotation when several injuries were sustained by other starters.

Duffy has pitched his way to a 2.82 ERA (before his start against the Tigers on Tuesday) and really looks like he has ace material this year.

Yordano Ventura and Ian Kennedy have seemed to have gotten it together too, as Kennedy has a 1.04 ERA in his last four starts. The starting pitching has come together, but it’s still too late for the Royals to make a late run.

For starters, they’re ten games back of the American League Central title, currently held by the Cleveland Indians. The Royals held an even larger margin in the division around this time last year and even with a crappy September, never relinquished the lead.

Second, the Royals are seven and a half games back of the second Wild Card spot. The teams ahead of them in that race are just much better teams, end of story.

This might be a tough season for KC Royals fans to take, as it won’t end with a World Series appearance, but the good news is that the boys in blue are still battling. They’ve suffered through injuries and bad luck this season and have shown that there is still a lot of fight left in them for 2017.

In order for 2017 to be successful, Duffy, Kennedy, and Ventura all need to have electric stuff and stay healthy. Alex Gordon needs to continue hitting like he has been lately with his six-game hit streak, and the team as a whole, can’t have all of these injuries again.

It seems like common sense, but I’m just reiterating it, folks. These Kansas City Royals haven’t had an easy plate in 2016, but 2017 should be much better.

Unfortunately this recent surge just came too little too late for the boys in blue.
