Second Best Game So Far in 2016

Kansas City 4 New York Mets 3

The 2016 season started off ironically, almost awkwardly, when the KC Royals held their championship celebration and flag-raising ceremony in the presence of the New York Mets, who they’d beaten in the World Series the previous season.

The Royals took a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning when Joakim Soria made his first appearance for KC in more than four years. Soria was shaky at best, like he was much of the beginning of the season, but the Royals hung on and began their title defense with a win.

This game was great because it was the first game of the season, and against the team that the Royals clobbered in the World Series. Had it been the other way around, it would have sucked, but it wasn’t, so yay.
