Kansas City Royals: Lorenzo Cain Injury Another Setback
By Charles Lam
Kansas City Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain got hurt again. The team has dealt with a lot of injuries this season. This injury is a huge blow for the Royals.
The Kansas City Royals placed Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list today. He hurt his hamstring last night attempting to run out a ground ball for a single against the St. Louis Cardinals. To add insult to injury, after further review, Cain got called out at first.
Cain came up lame shortly after crossing the bag at first base. He immediately grabbed his left hamstring. Broadcaster Rex Hudler, noticed he grabbed the center of his leg. He added that this could be good news since hamstring issues that occur at the top or bottom of the hamstring are typically worse.

The absence of Cain is a huge void to fill for the Kansas City Royals. He was having a great season. He slashed .290/.336/.416 this year. He added eight home runs and 12 doubles in 73 games played.
His defensive presence will be missed. He saved nine runs on defense at center field. He has two outfield assists and three errors as well.
He nearly had enough votes to start his second straight All-Star game. That looks all but over now.
The Royals will miss fantastic plays like this on defense while Cain is recovering. This catch came while the Royals were losing. It shows how hard he plays every night.
In his absence the Royals called up Brett Eibner from Triple A Omaha. Eibner got sent back to Omaha to make room for the return of Alex Gordon on June 25th.
He slashed .297/.350/.514 in 11 games for the Royals this season. He totaled one home run, five doubles off of 11 hits. He also accumulated seven runs batted in and scored six runs as well.

On the play Gordon broke a bone in his hand. He was out until June 25th. Eibner replace Gordon in the lineup while Gordon recovered from his injury.
Catcher Salvador Perez suffered a knee injury on May 28th. Third baseman, Cheslor Cuthbert could not hear Perez call for the baseball on a pop up in foul territory. He tried to avoid Perez and slammed into his knee accidentally. Perez was out one week until June 4th.
The Kansas City Royals battled through the injuries to a 40-36 record. The team is currently in second place in the American League Central, six games back of the red-hot Cleveland Indians. The Indians have won 11 straight games.
