The Kansas City Royals are ready to welcome back left fielder Alex Gordon. How did he do while rehabbing? Where will he hit in the lineup?

While rehabbing at Northwest Arkansas and Omaha, Alex Gordon batted second. He went 5-15 with a home run, one double and two walks for the Naturals.

He got promoted to Triple A Omaha on Thursday. He played two games for the Storm Chasers. He hit 3-7 with thee runs batted in and three walks. The Kansas City Royals need his bat back at the top of the line up.

It’s safe to say his hand didn’t bother him during his rehab stint. He will look to improve on his less than optimal numbers he had before he went on the disabled list. Gordon slashed .211/.319/.331 in 42 games for the Kansas City Royals this season.

The .319 on base percentage (OBP) is good to see. He found a way on base even though he struggled hitting. He had 16 walks and got hit by a pitch seven times. If Gordon can hit more consistently the Royals will be hard to beat. That’s only if the team gets better starting pitching.

Outfielder Brett Eibner heads back to Omaha to make room for Gordon on the 25-man roster. Eibner slashed .297/.350/.514 in 11 games for the Kansas City Royals.

I’m okay with this move. The Royals have too many outfielders. The team has Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Paulo Orlando, Jarrod Dyson and super utility man Whit Merrifield on the 25-man roster. If Eibner was added to this list that would have meant sending down a pitcher. The Royals need pitchers just in case of another bad outing by a starter.

Eibner needs to stay in a lineup to continue to develop his skills. Ned Yost sent Eibner down to get those critical at bats according to Todd Palmer of the Kansas City Star.

Here is tonight’s starting line up for the Kansas City Royals. Dare I say it looks sexy.

Gordon bats second and Escobar hits 8th. This line up is the best Royals fans can ask for minus one thing. I would have batted Orlando in the six hole. I like having fast players in between slow players to help the line up score more runs.

Orlando has been swinging a hot bat lately. He’s slashed .358/.382/.469 in 48 games for the Royals this season. His batting average is 109 points higher than last season. He’s got nine doubles, three triples and one home run this season.

With the return of Alex Gordon, the Kansas City Royals should score more runs. This should lead to more victories and hopefully a few more wins on the road. The Royals are 13-25 on the road this season.

Gordon will lengthen this line up and give the Royals a defensive presence in left field. Welcome back Alex.
