According to the fine folks over at Royals Review, the KC Royals are promoting Cheslor Cuthbert.

The KC Royals are going to promote the hottest hitter in their system right now. Cheslor Cuthbert, the third baseman for the Omaha Storm Chasers will be joining the team before tomorrow’s game. Royals review found the information via twitter and shared this exciting news with the rest of us. But what does it all mean? Mike Moustakas‘ thumb injury could be more serious that initially thought. He was a late scratch in today’s game even though he played a pinch-hit hero in a come from behind win on Tuesday night. One way to clear space for Cuthbert would be to place Moustakas on the disabled list. That would be unwelcome news to Royals’ fans and the KC Royals themselves. They could desperately use the Moose getting loose to liven up this offense.

More from KC Kingdom

Cuthbert is slashing .333/.402/.636 on the season so far and has seven home runs with 28 runs batted in. In other words, he’s absolutely raking. But the question still remains as to who is going to get sent down to make room for the third baseman.

Brian Flynn

seems like the obvious choice. Almost prophetically, the KC Royals promoted Flynn for a long-relief role the same day that they needed him to eat up innings. Now that he’s spent, they could send him down to make room for Cuthbert.

Yordano Ventura

is another, less likely, option for the Royals to demote. He’s on pace to walk roughly the population of Dallas, TX (joking), and needs to refine his command. He’s been better at times this season, but the Royals weren’t scared to demote him last year and they may do it now.

Christian Colon

seems like the other player who could be sent down, but

Ned Yost

indicated the opposite of that today. Jeffrey Flanagan, who covers the KC Royals for MLB.com, tweeted the following today: https://twitter.com/FlannyMLB/status/728681147656482816 https://twitter.com/FlannyMLB/status/728679880821460992 It seems unlikely that the Royals would send down the guy that they plan to plug in at second base on a more regular basis.

Omar Infante

isn’t the guy they’ll send down either if you’re wondering (mainly because baseball doesn’t work that way). Unfortunately, the most likely outcome is either Moustakas heading to the DL or Brian Flynn being sent back down. Hopefully, it’s the latter of the two.

Maybe Cheslor Cuthbert will be able to pump some life back into this offense that has forgotten how to get runners across. He’s young, energetic, and plays a pretty good brand of baseball to boot. Well Royals’ fans, what do you think about this impending move? Who’s going down?

Editor’s note: Mike Moustakas has been placed on the 15-day DL.
