The Royals and the Nationals have both been cold over the last few weeks. So who is going to break up the monotony and get things going? Hopefully not Bryce Harper.

It’s no secret that the Royals’ bats have been cold. They’ve scored just 2.8 runs per game over their past ten games. That’s not going to put a lot of W’s in the win column.

More from KC Kingdom

The Nationals haven’t been all that hot lately either. Some of their best hitters are on a bit of a cold streak. They’re getting wins in spite of their lack of success at the plate. They’ve scored just 3.7 runs per game in their last ten.

Daniel Murphy, who the Royals know and probably love, is batting .365 on the season but he only batted .273 during the last week. Bryce Harper has a batting average below .300 and is just two for his last 19 at the dish.

Anthony Rendon is batting .240 this season while Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, Michael Taylor, and Danny Espinosa are all batting under .220 on the year.

The Royals have some players that are also very cold this season. Kendrys Morales is looking more like 2014 Billy Butler lately. Alex Gordon has forgotten how to make contact. ‘Esky Magic’ is dead and gone. And Lorenzo Cain is trying to hit home runs in every at bat.

Yes, the Royals are in a slump, but hopefully that game on Sunday got them right. It won’t take long to find out if Sunday was an anomaly or not as the game begins in just a few short hours. It’s a shame the Nationals are only making a trip from St. Louis while the Royals have to come off of a long and tiresome West Coast road trip.
