Today’s KC Royals news is focused on the Royals’ inability to score runs. If it sounds like a broken record, it’s because it is.

The KC Royals haven’t scored a run since the first inning of a game on Wednesday night. Eric Hosmer hit an absolute bomb to open the scoring and then the Royals’ bats went cold(er).

On this road trip the KC Royals are now just 4-35 with runners in scoring position which is a batting average of .114. It’s no secret that the losing streak and the lack of runs scored go hand in hand.

Royals’ fans are growing restless with the team even though they are still 12-11 on the year. It’s too soon to be screaming for the fire sale yet.

Last year, the Royals won their first seven games of the season. Following that winning streak, they went 22-19 for the rest of April and May.

A five-game losing streak isn’t encouraging so it makes sense why there is some discord. It was the Royals’ ability to keep these kind of streaks at bay last season that hid the overall record from the fans.

The Royals have one more game on the west coast and then they can get out of that funky time zone that has fans staying up until all hours of the night only to be frustrated. They started their west coast trips with a win, so maybe they can bookend the west coast experience with a win tomorrow.

Even if the Royals lost, they’re 12-12 on the season with plenty of baseball to be played.

Yes, the players seem listless and the bats are extremely cold lately. It happens. A team that’s played more games the last two seasons than any other team is going to be tired. A team that spent the entire off-season on a championship tour is going to be tired.

But let’s not forget that last point. The Royals are coming off a season in which they brought a championship trophy back to Kansas City. Eight other fan bases don’t have that in their back pocket following ANY season.

The point is, as bad as things seem, it could be worse. The Royals could be mired in the middle of terrible baseball again. Perhaps it’s that fear that is driving some fans into a frenzy. But for now, enjoy the fact that the Royals are the reigning World Series champs and try to see the big picture.
