The KC Chiefs now have plenty of options to choose from to play cornerback for the Chiefs. Eric Murray comes with plenty of upside in a limited role.

The KC Chiefs have done very well in this draft so far. They traded down twice and twice they got great picks as a result.

In the second round, they took big defensive tackle Chris Jones who is now famous for his flub up at the NFL combine.

In the third round, take that Goodell, they picked up KeiVarae Russell. Some thought he would go early in the second round and some even had him as high as a late, first-round pick. The Chiefs took advantage of him falling down the draft board and scooped him up in the third round.

Now the Chiefs are adding a player at cornerback, that despite his short stature, has a lot of heart and plays a good brand of football as well.

They took cornerback Eric Murray out of Minnesota immediatley after addressing a position of need with an offensive guard.

In his career at Minnesota, Murray recorded 142 solo tackles and 192 overall. Seven of those tackles were for a loss and he also recorded a sack.

He only had two interceptions in his career, but he also forced three fumbles and recovered three fumbles. He may have a knack for knocking that ball out in space.

Here’s what NFL.com had to say about this cornerback who was a top performer in the combine in the Vertical Jump category:

"Too small to play outside, but has enough cover skills and toughness against the run to make it in the league as a slot cornerback. Murray’s instincts and vision serve him well in zone coverage, which might be where he is at his best, but he shouldn’t be considered limited to just zone-based defenses."

The Chiefs now not only have options at cornerback on the outside with Russel, Steven Nelson, and Phillip Gaines, but they’ve added a player that can roam ‘center field’ with Eric Berry and inflict some pain on running backs and slot receivers.

He was projected to go in the fifth round so the Chiefs may have jumped a little bit early on this pick, but to be fair, the cornerback pool was running very low.
