Fans are quickly growing restless with the lack of fire in these 2016 Royals. Have we already forgotten what it’s like to lose?

The KC Royals are 12-9 on the season. When they finished April in 2015 they had a record of 15-7 on the year. Considering they won the first seven games of the season, they finished out the month 8-7.

If the Royals can take the first two games of this series, they’ll have a record of 14-9 on the season and will be in a very similar position to last April. The White Sox are the early surprise this year, but last year it was the Twins who came on strong and looked scary.

They also had a record of 14-12 during the month of May last year. If you remove the first seven games of the year in 2015, the Royals basically played .500 ball through the first two months of the season.

Considering they started 5-2 in the first seven games of this season, so far they’ve gone 7-7 since. Two wins actually makes them slightly better at the end of this April than they were at the end of last April.

The point is, it’s not time to panic yet. It’s a marathon, not a sprint (or other cliche phrases).

The Mariners out-power the Royals with 29 home runs to the Royals’ 20. The Mariners rank fifth in that category while the Royals rank 18th.

The Royals are ninth in baseball with a batting average of .258, while the Mariners rank 26th with a .232 batting average.

Both have been poor with runners in scoring position. As bad as the Royals have been, .214 (26th), the Mariners have been close to as bad with an average of .221 (24th).

The Royals have struck out 146 times this year which is the third fewest strikeouts in baseball. The Mariners have 165 swings and misses which ranks 10th best.

On the hill, the Royals come in ninth with a 3.52 ERA while the Mariners have an ERA of 3.33 (sixth). The Royals are 12-9 on the year and 4-6 on the road. The Mariners are 11-10 this season but struggle at home to the tune of 3-6. Hopefully, the Royals make that 3-9.
