The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best running backs in all of football. Will they decide to draft their future franchise running back in the 2016 NFL Draft?

The KC Chiefs have always been a team to have a great running back taking the ball down the field. The last several years it’s been Jamaal Charles, who is coming off a second ACL injury this past season.

Charles will be turning 30 this year and it begs the question if it’s time to look for the future at the running back position in Kansas City?

The Chiefs signed Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware to extensions this past offseason, but could drafting a new running back be a good solution for the team? If so, Devontae Booker out of Utah is someone worth looking at.

Booker had two nice years for the Utes, racking up 560 attempts for 2,773 yards and 21 touchdowns. Booker also showed skills in the slot receiver spot, with 622 yards and two trips into the end zone.

What might scare a lot of teams away from Devontae Booker is that he had a torn meniscus during his senior season. The reason why this shouldn’t scare the Chiefs away is that Booker wouldn’t need to be a starter right off the bat. Kansas City already has Charles, West, and Ware in the backfield (not to mention Knile Davis, who’s still on the team, and Anthony Sherman at the fullback spot).

Adding Booker might seem a bit excessive, but with Charles nearing the end of his prime, it’s time for the KC Chiefs to start looking for the next franchise running back.

What Devontae Booker does well is makes strong cuts and hits top speed quickly, according to CBS Sports. He’s also great at pushing through contact and has the ability to leap over defenders.

Booker’s weaknesses, however, is that he has a fumbling problem, according to NFL.com. The Chiefs saw that exact same problem with Davis during his time in Kansas City, and that eventually led to him being demoted.

While Devontae Booker has a lot of upside, it’s unlikely that the Kansas City Chiefs will go after a running back in the draft, especially not early on. They have three capable guys in the backfield, and it might not be the best decision to add yet another running back to the depth chart.
