Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Chris Jones
The Kansas City Chiefs hold two picks in the first two rounds of the 2016 NFL Draft. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs decided to upgrade their defense with a prospect like Chris Jones.
Kansas City loves having a tough defense and they could decide to add to their defensive core in either the first or second round of the draft. A good second round pick for the Chiefs would be Chris Jones out of Mississippi State.
Jones spent three seasons with the Bulldogs as an anchor on their defense. He racked up 94 tackles, ten defended passes, and eight and a half sacks during those three years.

Jones’ strengths are that he can line up on both the inside and the outside of the defense. He’s received attention from his coaches on his practice habits and his attention to detail.
While the Kansas City Chiefs could probably use their first two picks on something else like a cornerback or safety, having a good defense (and depth to go along with that defense) is always a positive thing. Jones could prove to be the future stud on this Kansas City defense.
Gil Brandt of NFL.com went as far to say that he thinks Chris Jones is one of the most underrated prospects in the 2016 NFL Draft.

"Jones (6-5 3/4, 310, 5.03) has all the ability in the world, but it doesn’t always show up on every play. He’s an outstanding athlete, strong (26 bench lifts), and has long arms (34 1/2). He’s young (played just three years at MSU). He could be a very good NFL player but needs to work harder on every down."
Chad Reuter, also of NFL.com, feels like Jones is one of the most polarizing prospects. He stated he wouldn’t be shocked if Jones ended up going in the first 15 picks, but could plummet because of his inconsistency throughout his days at Mississippi State.
The inconsistency Chris Jones had in college was due to his lack of playing time early on at Mississippi State. He became a full-time starter his final season there and showed what all he could do during that one season.

What it comes down to is what the KC Chiefs are looking to add in the early rounds. Will they keep bolstering the defense or will they decide to do something on the offensive side of the ball?
