KC Royals Make Series Of Roster Moves

The KC Royals have made a few roster moves today. Hint: They just got a lot more fleet of foot.

Everyone knew that the KC Royals were going to have to make a few moves when the speedy outfielder Jarrod Dyson became fully healthy. It appears that he’s recovered as he’s been recalled from the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

Jeffrey Flanagan, the Royals writer for MLB.com, made a couple of tweets that revealed what the Royals decided to do in regards to the logjam in the outfield.

The KC Royals lost Jarrod Dyson for the start of the season after his first swing in Spring Training. He strained his right oblique and the estimate was that he would be out for at least six weeks. Tomorrow would make seven weeks exactly from the injury so it appears that he’s coming back right on schedule.

Speaking of seven, it seems to be the right number for Jarrod Dyson. After seven weeks of dealing with the injury, Dyson has now played in seven games on his rehab assignment. He also has seven hits in 22 at-bats during that seven game stretch. While all of his hits have been singles, he does have four stolen bases also.

There was some speculation as to who would be sent down when Dyson got called back up to the big leagues. The obvious candidates were Reymond Fuentes and Terrance Gore with Gore being the favorite to find his way back to the minor leagues.

Gore is really a one trick pony, but he’s just so good at that one trick. Fuentes is a former top prospect who, at least according to the eye test, looks mature beyond his years at the plate. Personally, I think he’s going to develop into a quality player for the Royals at some point.

Ned Yost opted to keep speed in his holster and keep Terrance Gore up. While I, like many others, would have liked to see Fuentes get a shot, there are a lot of reasons that this move makes sense.

With Dyson playing everyday in the field, his speed isn’t a weapon late in the game if someone like Kendrys Morales or Salvador Perez finds their way on base. Terrance Gore allows Dyson to assume the role of everyday outfielder and gives the Royals the same late inning speed versatility that they’ve so effectively utilized the past couple of years.

It also gives Reymond Fuentes the opportunity to play everyday at the Triple-A level and further refine his mechanics. Having his bat fresh and fine-tuned could prove useful down the road should any injuries arise.

Along with the roster moves to accommodate a healthy Jarrod Dyson, Dillon Gee was put on the paternity list due to the birth of his daughter. Congratulation Dillon! Miguel Almonte was recalled to take his place and somewhere Ian Kinsler is licking his lips. Almonte has not had a great start to his 2016 campaign as he’s given up eight runs, four of them earner, in five innings of work. He’s walked seven.

Well what do you think of the moves KC Royals’ fans? Do you like Dyson in right field? Do you think he should platoon with Paulo Orlando? Is it time to package up a trade offer for a more reliable right field option? Let me know your thoughts in the comments’ section below.
